Rule Changes for 2025 (Little League Official)

Below is a short list of significant rule changes handed down by Little League for 2025. You can view the complete list here.

  • Products, such as, but not limited to, choke-knobs, choke-up assists, or thumb protectors are considered alterations to the bat and are not permitted
  • Jewelry is now permitted; however, any jewelry worn by a player that poses harm to injury will be subject to removal. This rule applies regardless of the composition of such jewelry, hard cosmetic item, or hard decorative item. Hard items to control the hair, such as beads, are permitted.
  • Helmet stickers or decals are allowed, provided that such usage is not excessive, is not offensive, and does not make inappropriate references, such as that to drugs or alcohol
  • Pitchers in the Intermediate (50/70) Division/Junior/Senior Baseball, remaining on defense in the game but moving to a different defensive position, can return as a pitcher anytime in the remainder of the game, but only once per game. To return as pitcher, once removed from the mound, the player must remain in the game defensively.

Managers are responsible to ensure all non-wood bats have this logo:

  • Managers are solely responsible for ensuring that all bats used by their team are LEGAL
  • Use, or attempted use, of an ILLEGAL bat will result in the immediate ejection and a 1-game suspension of the manager

Lineup tools

GameChanger is great for batting lineups and stats, but it isn't perfect for Little League defense where we spread innings around and are careful with bench time. To help with these needs, we have created an easy to use tool that can  help you manage defense. There are two versions, a simple single game you can use over and over, and a full season that allows you to track playing time across the entire year.

Using them is simple: just replace the placeholder names with your team's players' names one time and then use the dropdown for each position to fill in with the new names. The tool will even count innings for each player so you don't forget everyone. Click the link for the version you want and it will download directly to your computer where you can open it and edit in Excel. (A Microsoft Office license is required to use, or you can open in Google Sheets)

Tools for 10-player defense (Farm, 89ers)

  • Single game
Perfect if you just want to do the day's lineups and don't care about tracking across the entire season.

  • Entire season
For coaches who want to track playing time over the season, which parents will appreciate as it shows you are tracking and doing your best to be fair with playing time and prime positions

  • Print out template
If you just want to handwrite the names this PDF is for you. Simply print it out and fill it in with a pencil. Perfect if you're not sure who's going to be there until game time or like to adjust during the game.

Tools for 9-player defense (Minors, Majors, Teens)

  • Single game
Perfect if you just want to do the day's lineups and don't care about tracking across the entire season.

  • Entire season
For coaches who want to track playing time over the season, which parents will appreciate as it shows you are tracking and doing your best to be fair with playing time and prime positions

  • Print out template
If you just want to handwrite the names this PDF is for you. Simply print it out and fill it in with a pencil. Perfect if you're not sure who's going to be there until game time or like to adjust during the game.

Pro tip! Dugouts can be hectic, esp with younger division players asking what positions they'll be playing. Printing out a defensive lineup for each inning and hanging it in the dugout can take the pressure off you to remind players where to go or when to put on the catcher's gear.
